In the Fall of 2001, a group of people looking for a sense of community through the love of their dogs, found themselves nightly on a dilapidated field in Lou Lodati Park In Sunnyside, Queens. They quickly became friends and started to organize and advocate for a dog run, all while taking care of the park each night. Twelve years later, with the help of local politicians, their dream came alive. The rest is, as they say, S.U.D.S. history. They now number 500 strong, becoming an even more positive & stronger force within their community by helping both people and animals in need- holding fundraisers, adoption events, free training sessions and even helping the police with canine education for children. S.U.D.S. is a fascinating look into the lives of the people and their dogs that helped change the neighborhood they call home.

About the Author
The members of the Sunnyside United Dog Society come from many different backgrounds and their dogs are just as diverse. In this middle class Queens, neighborhood they number school teachers, nurses, engineers, bus drivers, store owners right down to military aviation historians.Jeannette Remak, who edited the stories of the owners and produced the book, is the owner of Phoenix Aviation Research and a published author/ researcher and aviation artist for the U.S. Air Force.

I loved this book! Great job highlighting the many dogs that make up this great commmunity. Interesting highlights about how a community persevered and created a beautiful park!

The power of unity, love and sacrifice/

An amazing testimony from animal lovers, dedicated neighbors, and special humans capable of love animals deeply and with an extraordinary sense of community. The day we all understand the meaning of adopting, loving unconditionally, and caring with no limits another specie such as our pets, learn their language, the humanity will much better and compassionate. Congratulations to all involved.

This is one of the best books for animal lovers and a gift to someone who loves animals. I take time to read each story and it's a very good book to be placed on your table as a decoration as well. The size is perfect and the cover design is unique. A book about dogs doesn't always have to have a solo dog on the cover but showing what keeps a dog safe - a collar! That's a pretty well-thought idea for a book cover. Whatever the case is, the stories are so important to take away from. Sunnyside neighborhood will not be the same without pets and their owners walking the neighborhood streets and playing at the park. They should be proud of what they do to this community. Thank you for the beautiful people who made this happen. Best book to keep for yourself and have some extras for your loved ones. Enjoy!
