About the Author
Paul G. Hewitt
Former silver-medal boxing champion, sign painter, uranium prospector, and soldier, Paul began college at the age of 27, with the help of the GI Bill. He pioneered the conceptual approach to teaching physics at the City College of San Francisco. He has taught as a guest teacher at various middle schools and high schools, the University of California at both the Berkeley and Santa Cruz campuses, and the University of Hawaii at both the Manoa and Hilo campuses. He also taught for 20 years at the Exploratorium in San Francisco, which honored him with its Outstanding Educator Award in 2000. He is the author of Conceptual Physics and a co-author of Conceptual Physical Science and Conceptual Physical Science Explorations (with John Suchocki and Leslie Hewitt).Most helpful customer reviews

Simple to Use, Fun to Read!

Pros: Simple to Use, Diagrams, Quizzes, Answers in Back
Cons: Not much explanation in mathematics.
Rented book to use in a Conceptual Physics course and love it! I was dreading physics but with a good professor and an easy to read book, with many diagrams, pictures, and explanations, physics was made much easier! I would recommend this book to those interested in physics to gain a basic understanding of physics.

General physics primer

If you want to learn about physics, this is the book for you. It's all here, in plain English. Starts off pretty simple, and you might think you already know it. Trust me, review the material in the terms in which it's presented. Later on, when you get to more complex subjects like magnetism, you'll be glad you took the time to study simple acceleration.
The cartoonish illustrations are quite helpful and the photo examples featuring friends, family, students, and luminaries of the field are quite endearing. So not only does this book cover a lot of ground, it has a personal touch that makes the material quite approachable.

Necessary information presented in understandable manner

Necessary information presented with many pictures and graphs. We used it for a basic introductory class. I needed to reread some paragraphs, but basically understandable, good practice problems at end of each chapter.
