What I liked:
-Skye. I really love Skye as the main character. I’m always impressed by how serious she is when she has a goal to reach. Even though her love life has been a big worry throughout the entire series, she always manages to put her personal issues on the back burner while more important things were going on. She’s a reliable narrator and she has interesting interactions with all the other characters in the series.
-Akar. He’s mysterious, a little brooding in the past, hot, and he played a much bigger role in this book than in the previous ones. His relationship with the rest of the pack is always interesting to read about, but especially in regards to Skye. I love the dependence they have on one another.
-Mystery. Even though it’s annoying that people keep dropping dead and nobody really sits down and tries to figure out who is killing everyone, I do like that strange things keep happening and there’s always a sense that nobody can fully be trusted. It makes me think that nobody is really safe in this series, though I’m sure all of the main characters will have a happily ever after eventually. I honestly have no clue who is doing all of the killing, and I feel like the authors aren’t giving us clues so we can figure out. I don’t like the thought that it’ll just be sprung on us at the end with no buildup or chance to figure it out for ourselves. Or maybe I’m just missing the clues?

What I disliked:
-Tala Pack. This series has made me hate pretty much everyone in this pack, but especially Emma. She’s the worst character by far, and she brings nothing to the series for me. I hate literally everything about her, and I’m still angry that this series that’s supposedly about the Koto Pack focuses so much time and energy on the Tala Pack—who already had their own series. When the group split up and Skye went with the Tala Pack instead of her own, I knew it was going to affect my rating badly. Emma is selfish, stupid, vain, impractical, and she treats her mate like garbage—but the authors try to make it seem like she doesn’t, like she’s just a quirky girl with a heart of gold.
-Length. This book is the shortest of the series. So short that it’s not even really a book. It’s more of a novella, and I thought the price was high for the length. I finished it in like two hours.

What bothered me:
-Writing. The writing in this series is both a positive and a negative for me. I enjoy the first person writing style as we got more of a focus on Skye’s inner thoughts and motivations and I generally enjoy Skye’s character. However, things always happen way too fast. Important scenes are never fleshed out at all with any kind of detail or character reactions. People arrive, they talk, they leave, and that’s that. Things happen but entire scenes happen in the span of a page. There were some missed opportunities to flesh out some scenes better and add to the length of the story, making it more worth the money. It seems like in these books, there’s always some kind of miraculous turn of events. Some random person shows up offering help they need, someone randomly remembers an old legend that’s never been mentioned, someone randomly dies…I could go on. There’s no rhyme or reason to a lot of things that happen. They simply happen because the authors need them to in order to progress the plot.

Overall, despite the book being way too short, it was still probably the best and strongest book in the series so far. I liked that we got a better look at Skye’s relationships with some people, and I liked that they were solely focused on the task at hand in this book. There was no real deviation. The book was too pricey for the length, but I still enjoyed reading it nonetheless. 4.0
