Richard Arghiris first visited Latin America in 2003, when he travelled between the capitals of Mexico and Panama. Richard has since become a regular visitor to the Americas, writing and researching content for guidebooks, magazines, newspapers and websites. Richard has lived and worked in Amsterdam, Brighton, London and at sea. A waste of good trees

I love travel books. I know in the age of the internet they may seem non-essential; gone are the days of ending up in a city you have never been to and needing help to locate a hotel or the bus station. But to me, they still serve important functions: getting you excited about possible destinations, finding a spot you might not have found otherwise, giving you a rough map of where some basic things are located that you can refer to as you wander town, and most importantly providing some context, history, or information about a city/area. I have used all the major guide books (Lonely Planet, Moon, Fodor's, Frommer's, Rough Guide, etc.) over the last 20 years and this is the worst, most useless one I have ever seen. It contains a few (maybe 2 or 3 at most) listings for hotels and places to eat for some places. That's it. Yes, that is all. Maybe 2-3 sentences about a town/city, but nothing beyond that. In the age of the internet what possible reason is there for this book to exist? A simple trip advisor search (which is free, unlike this book) will turn up detailed reviews of 15x as many hotels AND let you book them. So the purpose of this book? I have no idea. If I had seen this book in person, I never would have bought it.
